I don’t feel sorry for anyone, only sorry For my father who married me off when I was far too young Far too young, far too young, and uneducated too And not because of love, or good conversation either You can bind the sheaf but it loosens, you can speak but it will not be liked We learned this excerpt of the longer song from Ensemble Hilka's "Songs of the Ukrainian Steppe": ua-cam.com/video/f8...

Hello! This is a beautiful song that I’ve kind of known for a while, although I was always singing the Michael Hurley version and I didn’t know about the original George Carter version until very recently. They have different scansion and lyrics and chords, and while I love the Michael Hurley version and have fond memories of singing it with friends, there are other similar-such versions out th...

Death, Grieving, Young Love, Nostalgia Oh boy. Here we are. Three years after Lauren, my first love, suddenly passed away. Three years after I wrote and recorded this song. I didn’t want to release it then because there were other people grieving and this song is very much about myself and my/our experience of young love. And now, writing these words, the sadness is still so raw and present and...

We recorded a song to distribute part recordings to the "dinner tier" of my Patreon (and for a 2021 Christmas album). This is one of my favorite carols that I've learned of late and hopefully it fills you with some good inner warmth hearing all of us singing some family folk harmony cramped together in my attic studio. The carol is based on a poem entitled ‘A Christmas Carol’ by English poet Ch...

Brian Dolphin - Shabbat Nigun
Переглядів 2853 роки тому
I started singing this Nigun one Friday night and then because it was Shabbat and I didn’t want to forget it (or turn on my phone), that night I sang it over and over again. I dreamed of it, hearing the melody all which ways and directions, definitely mixing myself up in the melody. I sang it the next day (and omg, I hoped I sang it the same way, cause I had sung it so many times to remember it...

Interesting video. I've fretted my viola also with fishing line and at another time with nylon classical guitar strings (I think the high E string). It worked well for playing chords and especially playing pizzicato, playing it like a mandolin/mandola. But I've removed the frets because I wasn't able to play deep vibratos properly. But I think that with some slight modifications an instrument could be made that is a fretted viola with the posibility for some vibrato. The Guitarviol is an example of a fretted instrument that is still able to be played with vibrato. Cool that I'm apparently not the only one trying these things :)

Hey hey, we did those livestreams every week for more than a year so if you really wanted it, you’d just have to scroll down one of our walls… I would say we did it probably in one of the first months of pandemic though, so that’s a good starting point! And we normally posted what we were singing in the video descriptions so that’ll also be a shortcut. Happy hunting!

Beautiful, brian - r u in some kind of exotic open tuning? Love the wordless vocal part. to my ear the guitar sounds a tiny bit too loud, and voice could be punched up a bit in the quieter sections, also I could hear a little better diction on some of the words, but that’s just my thing, everybody mumbles these days, and you are way clearer than most. If you like I can share this with a friend who has worked most of his life in the recording industry, and he can maybe give u some more concrete feedback. but all in all, a beautiful song, and you’ve got something to say, good luck in the competition. Best wishes, 🎺

I saw this artist in Prague where he performed Round Midnight without lyrics, he sang, moving the fundamental as the bass and creating the overtone as the melody of the song. It was quite an experience. This was in 2002 - must have been shortly after he had left Huun Huur Tu.
